FAQs

  • Dōm (pronounced like “dome”) is the root word for home. The mission of Dōm is to create a home for your soul within your body and mind.

It is also a reference to the domed nests built by black-billed magpies. I have always had a love for these beautiful birds who collect beautiful objects to line their complex nest structures.

When we intentionally focus on energetic integration and healing, we create beauty in the mind and body, allowing our soul to feel more balance, peace, and joy.

  • The human body contains an energy field that extends beyond the limits of physical form. Energy flows in and around our body and can be felt as emotion or physical sensation. When energy is blocked or restricted, negative emotions, physical pain, or tension can arise.

Energy healing is any practice that involves channeling or working with vital energy (sometimes called life force, chi, prana, or ki) in order to promote flow and to increase physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Energy healing is a holistic practice and it is NOT a replacement for medical care. I am not a licensed medical professional and I will NEVER diagnose or treat any physical or mental ailments, prescribe substances, or intentionally interfere with the advice of your health care provider. It is recommended that you seek medical treatment from a licensed professional if you are experiencing any physical or mental ailments.

  • Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese energy practice founded by Mikao Usui in the early 1920s. While similar forms of energy healing have been used for millennia, Reiki uses a method of channeling, meditation, and physical or energetic touch to guide Rei-Ki (Universal Energy) throughout the body. While this may seem intangible, it is so effective that it has begun to be offered at major hospitals, including the Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, John’s Hopkins, and Cedars-Sinai, as a complementary therapy alongside conventional treatments.

    Sound Bath

Sound Bath healing is an immersive experience that seeks to isolate one form of sense energy - sound - to calm the mind. This is similar to a mindfulness practice like focusing on the breath, but because the sound energy is so powerful, it is easier to drop into a deep meditative state without being distracted. The crystal singing bowls used at Dōm are attuned to 432Hz, a more natural and harmonious vibration for the human body than the standard 440Hz.

    Movement

When energy is not regularly integrated, it builds up in the body as tension, especially in the joints, spine, and in the fascia/connective tissue. Energetic movement, sometimes referred to as somatic release, tunes into the physical sensation of stored tension and allows the body to release it. Deep stretch and restorative yoga work into deeper areas of the connective tissue to allow a more complete and full release of this blocked energy.

    Breathwork

Simply put, breathwork is the practice of consciously controlling your breathing to influence your physical, emotional, and mental state. Breath is the energy flow of the body that connects us to the energy around us. Increased awareness and connection to this flow of energy can enhance meditation and healing

    Meditation

Technically, all of the above forms of energetic healing are a form of meditation. The brain operates naturally in several different energetic states, or brainwaves. The energetic line between the Theta brainwave state, which occurs just before sleep, and the Alpha brainwave state, which is a state of relaxed awareness, is the ideal zone where your body engages in self-healing. Intentionally and regularly entering this state of mind greatly enhances both physical and emotional wellbeing.

  • In person sessions last 90 minutes and include discussion before and after, a mini tea ceremony to close, and optional access to the grounds for individual meditation before you head back into your day. Expect 70-75 minutes of direct energetic work during an in person session

Distance sessions last 60 minutes and are conducted via Zoom. You will receive helpful tips on choosing and setting up your space for a distance healing session. Expect 45-50 minutes of direct energetic work during a distance session. The remaining time will be used for discussion before and after.

  • Energy healing may involve movement practices, sitting, standing, and laying down. Please wear comfortable, unrestrictive clothing that allows you to breathe deeply and move freely.

Shoes are not permitted inside the studio. Please wear footwear that is easy to remove. If you would like to access the creekside trail after your meditation, sturdy footwear is recommended as it may be muddy or uneven.

You do not need to bring anything to an in-person session. However, if you would prefer to bring your personal water bottle, yoga mat, bolster, or eye covering, you may do so. Otherwise, these will be provided

For distance sessions, headphones are required for sound bath. A blanket, pillow, eye covering, and water bottle are also recommended. If your space permits movement, a yoga mat and bolster may also be helpful.

  • At the end of every session, there will be time set aside for discussion. This includes anything you felt, anything I noticed in your energy field, and anything you want to continue to work on. I will send a follow-up email with a summary of our session as well as suggestions for further practice such as movement, meditation, and journal prompts.

Your energy is always changing. One session may not be enough to clear large blockages or restricted energy. I recommend repeat sessions of at least once a month for healing and maintenance.
